FOREWORD

OPPORTUNITY, PLEASE KNOCK... WE HAVE A DREAM!

THE FLAG STILL FLIES AND THE BEAT GOES ON...

Still achieving, still pursuing, learn to labor and to wait."

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

In hindsight, the years fly by and one periodically takes account of life, activities and experiences.

A desire to contribute, learn, inform and influence perceptions, has led the Black International Cinema to the 14th year of existence and destinations. As part, albeit a small one, of a growing European community of persons and cultures from around the world, the Black International Cinema and associated organizations, seek to create and promote a constructive informational flow, directed at improving and encouraging through dialogue and educational/cultural activities, a socio-political and economic climate of co-operative relations between the New Europeans and our hosts, who have resided on these lands for centuries.

No culture can live, if it attempts to be exclusive."

Mahatma Gandhi

If home is where the heart is and acculturation, a defining influence upon values, identity and culture, then there are thousands of new souls inculcating the atmosphere and essence of European countries and hence are aspiring, planning and working to make their homes, livelihoods and contributions to these soils, perhaps for centuries to come.

It is important to demonstrate to our neighbors and ourselves, the positive intentions of the New Europeans, so as to support and re-inforce the developing integration of Europe and ourselves within these lands.

"Life belongs to the living, and he/she who lives must be prepared for change."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"You can't say civilization isn't advancing: in every war, they kill you in a new way."

Will Rogers
